Coxcomb Prominent and Forest Bug

Coxcomb Prominent and Forest Bug

This photo shows a Coxcomb Prominent moth. I found it on the wall of a campsite toilet block. I took it over to our tent, where Ann took the photo. It didn’t take us long to find it in one of our field guides, which described it as being common and widespread. But it was the first time that either of us had noticed one.

The same is true of the Forest Bug, which we found outside our tent on a different occasion. We were convinced it should have been called a ‘bronze shield bug’ because of its polished bronze appearance.

It certainly has been a great summer for insects generally.
