Aloe and Indian Bean Tree

Aloe and Indian Bean Tree

During the summer our 50 year old cactus finally succumbed to old age. A neighbour gave us a cutting from her Aloe plant as a replacement. This photo shows how well it has come on in just a few months and it is nearly at its full height.

On a walk a couple of days later, I saw a row of Indian Bean Trees on the junction of a road. These are native to the southern US and have been planted in parks and on streets here since the 18th century. It is distinctive because of its large pointed leaves (up to 10inches long) and the long bean-like pods which remain on the tree throughout the winter.
