This was a garden of surprises – at first sight it was relatively small and shady, but when we opened it up – wow what an amazing space!
As you can see, the garden comprised a lovely house, with terrace and steps leading down to a garden with planting beds on either side.
The garden seemed to stop short at a huge stand of leylandii, but, in fact, on the other side of these trees….
was about the same amount of garden over again. However, understandably, our clients found that they and their family rarely ventured beyond the trees. They formed both a physical and a psychological barrier to full enjoyment of the wonderfully spacious garden – they had to go.
The difference once the trees had gone was truly astounding. Even at this stage, while the garden was still under construction, you can see that it looks a completely different place. The area at the bottom of the garden has been evened out and returfed, and the fence replaced all the way along.
Looking back up the garden, you can see the new sleeper retaining wall together with a good, safe set of steps to facilitate easy access from upper to lower lawn. The shed allows for storage of garden tools and mower, along with a small raised bed for a little vegetable growing.
And finally, the almost completed garden, with shaped upper lawn and flower beds, ready for planting up with some mature trees and herbaceous planting. A garden changed from restricted view to wide open space – made usable and enjoyable again.
